The Various Ways of Ideas

by Ken Robert on June 18, 2009

Some ideas slip beneath the covers
and tell you stories as you drift asleep.

Others pinch and slap and kick you,
demanding that you get up, get up.

Then there are those that accost you
right in the middle of the cross walk
as you make your way from curb to curb.

And one day,
while you’re browsing the book shelves
and holding a steaming Styrofoam cupful
of Mocha Loco Whats-it-to-ya,
you’ll look up and see one looking back at you
through an open space in an eye level shelf
in the bargain section where they keep all the good stuff.

And, oh, those eyes.
They’ll flutter and pop,
and you’ll see that knowing grin,
and you can bet your bottom dollar
that this one is dangerous.

How did I miss this? Ken, I am seeing a collection, in a real book, in bookstores, sooner than you know.
I want to share this /you with everyone.

Ken,
Barbara Winter told me I should come and read this as well as your other work because she said it would be something I’d like. She knows me alright. It’s wonderful! I love this poem. It’s so true that ideas come from everywhere and some are more persistent than others. And some leap out at you when you least expect it! Thank you for sharing your gift. I look forward to checking out your other work.

Thanks, Sally. She told me about you too. I really like your whimsical art gallery.
